Make Your Own Christmas Presents For Xmas 2010

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

The Christmas season is a hugely fun but often very expensive time of the year. Christmas can be expensive if you’re just buying for your other half, but if you’re trying to buy presents for a whole family, you need to try and cut the costs wherever possible.

So to that end, here’s a few unusual Christmas gifts that you can make yourself, giving that special someone a present that means just that little bit more. People love to recieve gifts that demonstrate how highly a person thinks of them, and there’s no better way to do that than with a highly personalised, homemade present. So if you’re finding it difficult to afford all the gifts you need to buy, perhaps these ideas will give you some inspiration:

Memory jars are a fantastic personalised present and particularly good for an older friend or relative. Talk to other people who know the person in question, and see if they can give you specific memories and/or pictures of the person. Then take several business card sized bits of card and write one memory, or stick one picture (or both) to the card. Fold the cards in half and place them inside a suitable container, such as a box or jar (old sweet jars work well, particularly if you take the time to decorate them). This gift will mean the person you love can take out a piece of card every day and see an old picture or memory of them from someone who loves them. It’s a very personal gift, costs nothing at all and will mean a lot to the recipient.

A gift that’s more suitable for a younger person would be a safe-style, hollow book. Easy to make and particucularly good for students, teenagers and slightly older children. Buy an old book from a charity shop or find one about the house, glue all the pages together and then hollow out the centre of the book with a knife. This will allow the person you give it to to hide whatever they like inside the book, and place it on a bookshelf. Very simple, extremely easy to do and a fantastic way of saving on Christmas presents.

Personlised recipe booklets make really good Christmas stocking fillers. Put together all your favourite recipes into a personalised booklet, add little samples of the best recipes or include hand written notes throughout. A great gift that any mother, grandmother or relative would really like.
